As reported by KPLC TV in “South Cameron Fire Station Gets Floor Upgrade with Help from the Community,” the South Cameron Fire Department recently gave its facility a major flooring upgrade—without the major price tag. Instead of hiring outside contractors, firefighters and local residents took the project into their own hands, installing an epoxy floor that cost just $1,700 compared to the $10,000–$13,000 quotes they received.
The previous concrete floor had been refinished after Hurricanes Laura and Delta, but it proved to be a long-term liability—stained, difficult to clean, and slippery. “Even with cleaning and pressure washing, you still couldn’t get all that material out of there,” Manuel explained.
